Tampa Bay Sun wins inaugural league championship
June 16, 2025 - The Tampa Bay Sun won the region's first professional women's sports title Saturday night after defeating Fort Lauderdale United FC 1-0 to earn the inaugural USL Super League Championship. Ceclie Floe scored in extra time to clinch the victory following an assist by Sydny Nasello in the 100th minute at a sold-out Riverfront Stadium in downtown Tampa. The Super League is a new top-tier women's professional soccer league that will expand to nine teams in 2026.
