Tampa benefits company acquired by firm that specializes in artificial intelligence
March 30, 2021 - Continental Benefits LLC, headquartered in Tampa, has been acquired by Marpai Health Inc., a New York-based company focused on deep learning, an advanced form of artificial intelligence. Founded in 2013 by Damien Lamendola, Continental Benefits is a national health care payer and acts as a third-party administrator that handles all administrative aspects of providing health care to self-insured employer groups. Lamendola, in a press release, said his company has been working with Marpai Health for more than a year, and that a merger makes sense, given how AI is shaking up the way health care plans are administered. “By mapping future health states to enable early intervention, we believe that we can help prevent the onset of major illnesses and allow members and employers to get ahead of costs that could have been avoided,” he stated in the release. “We also expect to be able to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse in the health care system through our AI, which wasn’t available previously.”
