Tampa International roadwork prompts overnight detours
July 29, 2020 - Tampa International Airport plans to replace 10 large overhead signs on roadways leading to the airport starting Aug. 2 and continuing through the fall. The work will prompt about 40 nights of detours, typically occurring between 8:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Visitors coming during the day can expect to see lane closures and roadway construction related to the project. Airport officials do not expect the detours to add significant time but they are advising passengers to continue to arrive two hours prior to departure. In a news release, the airport said some of the most impactful detours will be in early August. On Aug. 4-Aug. 5, the inbound Parkway will be closed from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. each day and traffic will be routed to Spruce Street and directed to use the O’Brien Street entrance. On Aug. 6, the outbound Parkway will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. and traffic will be diverted to the Bessie Coleman Service Road near the Marriott. On Aug. 11, from 8:30 p.m. until 4:30 a.m., traffic coming into the airport from State Road 60 or Interstate 275 will be directed to Spruce Street, where vehicles will make a U-turn and be redirected to the inbound Parkway via the Spruce Street on-ramp.
