Tampa man, already on supervised release from prison, faces more time for same crime

January 28, 2021 - Tampa resident Darius Edwards apparently didn’t learn the lesson that crime doesn’t pay. According to a statement issued by the Middle District of Florida U.S. Attorney’s Office, Edwards, 42, has pleaded guilty to manufacturing counterfeit Federal Reserve notes. He was convicted of the same charge in 2015 and had been on federal supervised release after serving 33 months in prison. Last year, he was arrested by the Pinellas Park Police Department for allegedly possessing counterfeit currency, partially completed counterfeit currency and computer media used to manufacture such currency. Edwards now faces up to 20 years in federal prison plus an additional two years for violating the terms of his supervised release.
