USL announces conference realignment
December 21, 2021 - The USL Championship announced it is changing its competition structure for the 2022 season. The league is returning to a two-conference format, with the Tampa Bay Rowdies competing in a 14-team Eastern Conference. In addition to previous Eastern Conference rivals, the Rowdies will face the USL’s newest club, Detroit City FC, in 2022. Tampa Bay will face conference opponents twice next season, with the remaining eight matches coming against Western Conference clubs. The top seven teams from each conference qualify for the 2022 playoffs, and the USL Championship Final will take place between Nov. 10 and Nov. 14, 2022.
