Westshore hotel to close due to I-275 expansion

October 19, 2022 - The DoubleTree Tampa Airport Westshore hotel at 4500 West Cypress St. will close its doors before the end of the year as the Florida Department of Transportation will demolish the building in preparation for the expansion of Interstate 275. FDOT has owned the hotel since 2015. ARL Tampa Management LLC, the operators of the hotel, notified to the state that the hotel will close on or around Dec. 19 and will result in 74 layoffs. "While we do not concede that the closure will trigger WARN Act Notice requirements, we are providing this notice in the abundance of caution," the Oct. 17 letter read. All of the affected employees have been notified of the closure and layoffs. They are not represented by a union. The majority of affected workers in the 165-key hotel include those in housekeeping, food services and engineering.
