What do you do?
The Studio@620 is a visual and performing arts nonprofit, a welcoming space that supports local emerging and established talents and engages our entire community … that’s a polished way of saying we offer everything from films to plays to open mics to art shows to educational workshops … Because the answer is always yes, we do it all here!
Why do you do it?
Our passion is to share the passion of others. The Studio has served as an entry point for many local theater groups, singers, artists and writers who are now well established entities on their own. As an organization, we know the value that emerging artists have to offer and we are proud to give them a platform to share their ideas.
What was your Catalyst? (How did you get started?)
The Studio@620 was founded out of a belief that the arts can bring people together, foster understanding and build community. As a new nonprofit, we pulled together a group of donors and volunteers who helped us secure a space and get things running. It has been a learning experience from day one for all of us.
What’s a common misconception or unknown aspect of what you do?
Free events aren’t free – we love to welcome guests to enjoy our programming at low or no cost to them whenever we can, but whether a show has sponsors or grant funding or not, the expenses are the same. So while an event might say ‘free admission,’ the production cost is quite high which is why we rely heavily on our members and other contributors who help us keep our doors open and the opportunities flowing to both talent and audience.
What’s the most challenging part of your Hustle?
Time is a limited resource and delicious ideas are infinite. How to fit them all in is our biggest and most rewarding challenge.
What’s the most valuable piece of business advice/insight that’s helped you?
We’re stronger together. When The Studio@620 partners with other groups, everyone benefits. Keeping an open mind and putting everyone’s talents to best use results in success. Collaboration is key.
