An artificial intelligence chapter-based organization will begin to have a presence in the Tampa Bay area.

The global platform AI Salon brings business leaders, entrepreneurs and community members together to connect and learn more about how to effectively use the technology. It already has U.S. chapters in a few cities including Miami, Nashville and Atlanta.

AI Salon’s St. Petersburg/Tampa chapter will launch Oct. 22 at an inaugural event, at the Tampa Bay Innovation Center (1101 4th St. South) from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free.

Locally-based technology solutions and software training company CodeBoxx was key in bringing the concept to the area.

“The number of the different markets that AI Salon had attracted me,” said CodeBoxx Academy director Brian Peret.

With chapters in cities such as Amsterdam, Bangkok; Abu Dhabi, and Paris, the organization has a wide global reach. “We really saw an opportunity there to hop in and expand the domestic presence for it,” Peret said.

Peret will serve as the master of ceremonies for the event, which is split into three segments.

CodeBoxx founder and CEO Nicolas Genest will give an opening keynote address.

A “Startup Showcase” will follow. Local leaders of companies that are implementing AI will share how they are leveraging the technology to create their products or services.

Presenters include University of South Florida associate professor, and founder of Actualization.ai John Licato; Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital pediatrician and co-founder of Easy PA Paola Ballester; and Fatin Kwasny of Fractio.

Actualization.ai reviews and analyzes legal documents to assist with clarity and understanding. It can additionally detect hidden clauses, cybersecurity issues and other risk factors.

Easy PA uses the technology to simplify the prior authorization process for health care providers. Fractio is a workforce development platform that aligns costs with outcomes and goals – helping teams more efficiently operate their businesses.

The event will conclude with a community mic period.

“My goal in this is to make sure that the best ideas rise to the surface and part of that is to make an intention,” Peret said, “so that everyone in the room has a chance to get that microphone in their hand.”

“They get to say who they are, why they’re here, what their role is in the AI economy and what they need.”

Peret believes coming together as a community to discuss the influence of AI can have lasting implications.

“Right now is a crucial time where we have a chance to define what AI is going to be for us,” he explained. ”We have a chance to grab our own agency so that we can be the ones who help control where it goes, or we risk being the ones who are controlled by it.”

CodeBoxx and the Tampa Bay Innovation Center are sponsoring the first AI Salon event. “We’re founding the chapter,” Peret said. “However, in order for this to be sustainable, this needs to be a community-run effort.”
