Amazon picks up docuseries on ‘It’ lesbians in Tampa Bay
Amazon Studios has picked up a lesbian reality docuseries that’s filmed in Tampa Bay.
Amazon picked up the eight-episode, unscripted docuseries dubbed Tampa Baes this week, according to multiple reports.
The series follows the young lesbian “it-crowd” as they navigate and celebrate life in Tampa Bay.
The synopsis from Amazon Studios reads:
The filming started around April, St. Pete-Clearwater Film Commissioner Tony Armer told the St. Pete Catalyst. Armer helped the California-based 3 Ball Productions team, a 3BMG company, with the permitting process. The series was shot over the past three months.
Armer says the crew was based in Tampa, where they rented out a condo complex, and the shooting destinations were in Tampa and St. Pete including Fort DeSoto, Indian Rocks Beach, Vinoy Park and around local businesses.
“They spent millions here,” Armer said about the economic impact, which is measured by money spent for room nights, local hiring of crew members, expenditures, and spotlighting local businesses.
The production team didn’t seek any film incentives for the series.
The cast of the new series includes Ali Myers, Nelly Ramirez, Shiva Pishdad, Jordan Whitley, Marissa Gialousis, Summer Mitchell, Cuppie Bragg, Brianna Murphy, Haley Grable, Melanie Posner, Olivia Mullins and Mack McKenzie.
Posner is a Gulfport mural artist, known for her mural at the Hollander Hotel in downtown St. Pete.
