Annual PAVA art show at the Coliseum this weekend
The Professional Association of Visual Artists, better known as PAVA, returns to the St. Petersburg Coliseum Saturday and for its 34th annual “Cool Art Show.” More than 60 fine artists, most of whom call Tampa Bay home, will participate.
The “cool” in the event name refers to air conditioning. Formed in 1988, the nonprofit organization dedicated itself to, among other things, establishing a summertime art show in Florida, a show that wouldn’t be hot enough to keep potential customers away.
It’s a juried show of both visual and functional art – in paint, wood, ceramics, photography, metal, glass, fiber, digital, mixed media and jewelry.
St. Petersburg artists Lorraine Potocki (pastels) and Rebecca Skelton (10-minute portrait drawing) will conduct demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Hands-on activities for children (ages 5 to 12 years old) will include the return of the PAVA “Scribble Wall,” foil marker prints, optical illusion weavings, inkless printmaking and more.
Show hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday (June 22) and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday (June 23). Parking and show admission are free.
The St. Petersburg Coliseum is located at 535 4th Avenue North.
