Arts Alive! podcast: Jazz pianist Zachary Bartholomew
Bartholomew and his trio will play Vince Guaraldi’s score for ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas.’
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas, and its evocative, jazzy score, pianist Zachary Bartholomew and his trio are in town this weekend to breathe new life into what has become timeless music.
The score was written and originally performed by the late Vince Guaraldi, whose deftness as a composer was matched by his arranging and recording brilliance. Guaraldi wrote for a half-dozen Peanuts specials and movies, and his music is as much a part of their winsome charm as Linus’ blanket, or Snoopy’s eccentricities.
Bartholomew and his group go all-Guaraldi Sunday (Dec. 14) at the Palladium Theater’s Side Door Cabaret. The concert sold out Thursday.
The Miami-based musician, composer and educator guests on today’s video edition of the Arts Alive! podcast. The Florida native discusses his love of music, his considerable education (he’s DR. Zachary Bartholomew) and the musicians that will accompany him for Sunday’s holiday concert.
He also performs for us – a couple of classic tunes from A Charlie Brown Christmas.
