It’s Second Saturday ArtWalk weekend, among other things.

Works by glass artist Hiroshi Yamano are included in "Magic + Migration: Nature in Contemporary Glass," at The Chihuly Collection.

It’s SHINE Mural Festival time. The 11th annual live-before-your-eyes painting event begins Friday. It has its own full story in today’s edition of the Catalyst.

The Spanish artist Antonio Segura, who goes by the name of Dulk, is in town through Nov. 16 creating a mural on the south-facing wall of St. Pete Athletic, located within The Factory St. Pete.

Famous for blending surreal imagery with organic forms, Dulk’s surrealist work is on view all over the world. He’s an environmentalist who blends concern for the planet into every brushstroke.

Most recently, he’s been in the Galapagos Islands, for a collaboration with National Geographic.

His appearance – and work – here is sponsored by No Good Deeds Art, an organization created by former SHINE Mural Festival director Jenee Priebe.

On Nov. 13, Dulk will give an Artist Talk at FloridaRAMA, followed by reception at the Wild Space Gallery.

From the muralist known as Dulk: “This is my latest mural, painted in Vallà, Italy. In it, I’ve brought together a group of characters that, like many endangered species, are forced to migrate to leave behind their habitat in search of a better place. Leading this caravan is the fox, an animal that symbolizes cleverness, but also vulnerability. He’s the guide, embodying the intelligence needed to adapt.” Image: Facebook.

Second Saturday ArtWalk

The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance’s monthly Second Saturday ArtWalk takes place Saturday – as always, approximately 40 galleries and artist studios will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. for your perusal, pleasure and a potential shake ‘n’ howdy with the actual artists. This is the city’s hyper-local arts event, and sections of the Central Arts District, Grand Central District, Warehouse Arts District, Uptown Arts District, Deuces Live District, Edge District, and Waterfront Arts District are imminently walkable.

The free Warehouse Arts District Association trolley loops through the district, with stops at WADA, Morean Center for Clay, FloridaRAMA, Duncan McClellan Gallery, Five Deuces, the Clay Co-Op.Park at the ArtsXchange, and the Deuces Corner Park. It comes around every 30-35 minutes.

New exhibits

Unpolished Intent, the exhibit of new works by former St. Pete resident Frank Strunk III at ARTicles Gallery, opens with a reception Friday. Here’s our profile of the artist from Nov. 1.

St. Pete mixed-media artist Joyce Curvin’s exhibition Behind Closed Doors opens with a reception Friday at Brenda McMahon Gallery in Gulfport. “Recycling is the heart of my work,” reads her artist statement. “My goal is to capture an expression, attitude, or moment of joy in every piece.”

Meanwhile, Gulfport’s Art Jones Studio Tour returns Dec. 6 and 7.

Works by Sallie Hackett Brown and Theresa Segal are together in Reconstructed | Revisited, making its debut Sunday at Soft Water Gallery, on the Warehouse Arts District Association campus. Brown creates three-dimensional artwork from objects and parts once used for farming, industrial, and household applications, while Segal’s photography focuses on the art and architecture of the mostly-unused upper rooms in St. Augustine’s Lightner Museum.

Opening Saturday at the James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art: Edward S. Curtis: Photographer of His Time.

Two openings Saturday at the Morean Center for Clay: Between Two Groves: Karina Yanes, and Community Quilt: Brenna Curvey.

Now on view at the Morean Arts Center’s Chihuly Collection, Magic + Migration: Nature in Contemporary Glass brings together seven contemporary glass artists, each drawing inspiration from birds, fish, and wild environments. In addition to St. Pete’s own Duncan McClellan – who co-organized the exhibition – the featured artists are Robin Grebe, Richard Jolley, Crista Matteson, Naoko Takenouchi, Stephanie Trenchard and Hiroshi Yamano. It’s on view through Jan. 18.

A reminder that Alberto Giacometti & Salvador Dalí: Through & Beyond Surrealism opens Nov. 15 at the Dali Museum.

Creative Pinellas’ Arts Annual (“From Now to Next”) bash takes place Nov. 21 at the gallery/headquarters on Walsingham Road. Muralist BASK is creating a site-specific, multi-piece work that will be sold off, either as a whole or piece by piece, as a fundraiser for the organization.

Creative Pinellas executive director Margaret Murray guests on our Arts Alive! podcast Friday.
