‘Catalyst Sessions’ recap: freeFall’s Eric Davis
Eric Davis, artistic director of St. Petersburg’s freeFall Theatre Company, appeared on The Catalyst Sessions Thursday and addressed, among other things, the frustration he and his team are feeling as summer approaches with no definite date in sight for raising the curtain again.
“That’s really the most challenging thing, this sort of unknown,” Davis explained. “We think through all these various scenarios of ‘What might happen if,’ but like everybody else is having to do now, there’s a lot of speculation.”
“So it will be great when we can have a better sense of when we can very safely re-open. We don’t want to re-open too soon or any of that.”
The 2020-2021 season of shows hasn’t been announced yet, as the flag of uncertainty is still flying highest.
The next thing on freeFall’s calendar is the return of the two-person musical drama Marie and Rosetta, Aug. 12-30.
It may well happen.
“In our theater, to follow the guidelines of being six feet apart – to have parties six feet apart in all directions – I think our capacity would be way less than 50 percent,” Davis said. “So we can probably make something like that work for Marie and Rosetta.
“But we can’t for a new piece. Even something with one actor, I think we’d be very pressed to be able to do that. So we’ll see what happens.”
