The Catalyst caught up with former St. Petersburg Mayor Bob Ulrich (1987-91) just days after his 90th birthday. The interview took place right after the City reached its agreement with the Tampa Bay Rays and Hines to redevelop the historic Gas Plant district.

Ulrich was a driving force in the acquisition of Major League Baseball, during a contentious time in St. Petersburg’s history.

Wonderful to see Mayor Ulrich again! So glad to see his mind and wit are as sharp as ever! Tell me, Mayor, are you still married to your first wife, Barbara?

Mayor Ulrich was a wonderful Mayor who led St. Petersburg through a very tumultuous time of downtown growth and redevelopment, and I don’t think he’s every gotten recognized enough for his efforts.

    Mayor, you’re simply the best!
