"Blue Note" is a collection of paintings by James E Hartzell highlighting artwork inspired by music. Opening reception is Saturday 9/10 from 5-9pm.
The show features stylized portraits of musicians created from live sketches of local acts, along with landscapes that are informed by the artist’s life and experiences traveling. A loose or gestural quality present in the work is a reference to the improvisational spirit of Jazz and the famous label Blue Note Records, founded in 1939. The artist pays tribute to other musical genres that helped him "shake a tail feather" from a young age with artwork inspired by Blues, Reggae, Motown, Bluegrass and Hip Hop. Enhance your experience of the show by scanning the art using the free app Pixelstix for more information about the paintings and the songs that inspired them.
Opening Reception will have live music from Bud Good, refreshments in the gallery and food from Gateway Subs. Enjoy this co-op gallery space filled with works from 26+ local artists.
The Blue Note exhibit is on display from August 30th until October 2nd.
A portion of the show’s proceeds will be donated to the Suncoast Blues Society, a 501(c)3 charity based in Tampa Bay.
