2-Day Creative Writing Workshop with Author Tyler Gillespie
10am-3pm Daily

Let's get inspired by the work of SHINE Mural Festival Artist HOXXOH.

Writers of all ages and experience welcome!

Day 1: We’ll first explore ekphrasis -- writing inspired by art -- through examples, then turn to Hoxxoh’s mural for inspiration before we spend time writing our own pieces (poetry, fiction, nonfiction, script, or hybrid work). We’ll end the day in discussion of the work we’ve generated during our time together.

Day 2: We’ll begin with an informal workshop. Participants can either bring in a revision of their art-inspired piece(s) from day one or a small section of other writing (up to 2 poems or 5 pages of prose).

The writer will read the piece, discuss the kind of feedback wanted, and then the group will respond to the work.

The rest of the day will be spent with Gillespie in one-on-one consultations. During these sessions, participants can discuss any aspect of their writing from brainstorming to drafting to querying agents.
