Acclaimed actress, writer, educator, and filmmaker Erica Sutherlin is bringing together a group of talented individuals for a staged reading of Ntozake Shange’s 1975 legendary Choreopoem* to be presented virtually from The Studio@620.  The original, fierce and haunting work was a clarion call to thousands of African American women, who saw themselves, their struggles and their determinations rendered in vivid, powerful language. Erica appeared as Lady Purple in The Studio’s 2008 production of “For Colored Girls”.

Now, in celebration of black womanhood, power, and spirituality, we will celebrate the importance of black female art, our journey, our words, and spiritual healings through a virtual reading of “For Colored Girls who have Considered Suicide when the Rainbow is Enuf”, including honest discuss between the Actresses.

Donations are accepted to support this free live-stream broadcast which will air on The Studio@620’s Facebook page.

*A Choreopoem is a form of dramatic expression that combines poetry, dance, music, and song.
