International Mud Day is a day for children around the world to connect with the earth through mud play and exploration! A Pop-Up Adventure Playground is a free public celebration of open ended, child-directed play featuring an abundance of “loose parts” like cardboard boxes, fabric, buckets, and other interesting materials.
Tips for an awesome popup experience:
1. Upon arriving at the popup, please sign in. Look for posted signs with a QR code to quickly and easily sign in online or make your first stop the sign in table. By signing in, you help us keep stats for grant funding opportunities, have the chance to review our photo release and liability policies, can opt into our newsletter (if you haven't already), and find us on social media. You will also have a chance to make a donation to Rooted in Play to help keep our popup events free to the community.
2. Charles B. Williams Park has several "playable" areas including a playground, field, picnic area, and basketball courts. If mud isn't your thing, it can be relatively easy to avoid while still experiencing the magic of a popup.
3. Honor your child's feelings. They may or may not be into the mud or the loose parts and that's okay! Popups can sometimes be overwhelming and it often takes kiddos a bit of time to warm up. We are advocates for all types of self-directed play!
4. Bring a change of clothes and a towel. It will get messy.
5. Make sure to have some play fuel. The park has water fountains but we recommend bringing your own snacks and water.
6. We have been closely following the CDC guidelines and while masks are not required outdoors, we are expecting a crowd and will not be able to enforce distancing. We are an inclusive group and want to make sure everyone feels comfortable so please wear a mask if that feels like the right choice for you and your family.
