Faith Communities Across St. Petersburg Unite for National Day of Prayer Thursday at Eckerd College
Seven x 7 movement — born from a 2007 prophecy to Rev. Louis M. Murphy, Sr. — convenes its 19th annual citywide observance under the theme “Glorify God Among the Nations”
This year’s theme, “Glorify God Among the Nations,” is drawn from 1 Chronicles 16:24 — “Tell of his glory among the nations, his wonderful deeds among all the peoples.” Pastors from participating Seven x 7 churches will lead prayers for the nation, the community, families, schools, government, the military, and the global Church.
A movement born in St. Petersburg
Seven x 7 traces its origin to May 2007, when Rev. Murphy received a vision calling for “seven teams of seven churches, each holding revival for seven consecutive nights in seven sectors of South St. Petersburg” — a charge to unite 49 congregations as one body for the work of the Great Commission. What began as an event quickly became a movement. By May 2008, more than 60 congregations had joined the effort, launching the “Boots on the Ground” outreach campaign and convening the first South County observance of the National Day of Prayer, which drew nearly 2,000 worshipers.
Now in its 19th year, Seven x 7 continues to be led by a steering committee of senior pastors representing churches across the city. The movement’s annual National Day of Prayer service has become one of the largest interdenominational gatherings in Pinellas County.

From the founder
“When God gave me the Seven x 7 vision in 2007, the charge was clear — unite the faith community to fight for the soul of our city. Nineteen years later, we are still answering that call. The National Day of Prayer is a moment for every congregation, every denomination, and every family in St. Petersburg to come together and tell of His glory among the nations.”
— Rev. Louis M. Murphy, Sr., Senior Pastor, Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church; Founder, Seven x 7
