The Sunroom Open Stage, hosted by Sundé, is a twist on the traditional open mic. Rather than just having individuals showcase their talents across one medium, this event will feature cross-collaborations between different mediums of expression — poets, rappers, singers, live visual artists, comedians, dancers, and (of course) music instrumentalists will all share a stage together!
Visual artists will have a designated space on one side of the stage to perform a live creation (painting, pottery, etc.). Sound artists will take the other side of the stage to showcase their work. Dancers and poets can choose to perform to the sounds of musicians in the room, bring their own tunes or just perform acapella. Anyone from any musical background can sign up to perform either covers or their own original songs. Space will be given to amateurs and professionals alike.
Sundé will open the show at 7:30 with a few songs to get everyone warmed up. Then, starting at 7:45, Sundé will introduce each performer, who can choose to go one at a time or together in a group. All performers must sign up in advance using this link (
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/B29CTH9) to secure a time slot, which can be anywhere from 2 to 15 min each. Pre-sign ups are mandatory unless there are less than 9 sign-ups for each event, in which case in-person sign ups will be accepted.
This will be a beautiful exploration of what’s possible with multiple mediums of artistic display in one space. Audience members will be encouraged to offer active listening during the show and personally engage with the artists after the show. This will be a safe space for all people and genders of diverse backgrounds. A zero tolerance policy for hate speech or indecent behavior will be strictly enforced.
Stay tuned for more dates.
