Used book sale to benefit Cat Haven Rescue
Tarpon Springs’ The Gilded Page bookstore and Brighter Days Brewing Company are hosting a charity book sale Sunday, Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. benefitting Cat Haven Rescue – a safe haven for unwanted, abandoned, homeless and abused cats and kittens.
All hardcover books are priced at $5 and all paperbacks at $3. Any books leftover after 2 p.m. will be sold for $1.
The event is taking place outside at Brighter Days Brewing Company, 311 North Stafford Avenue, Tarpon Springs. Weather permitting, the rescue will have kittens available for adoption.

Greenwood Cemetery cleanup

Greenwood Cemetery, established in 1877, is one of St. Petersburg’s oldest cemeteries.
The Historic Roser Park Neighborhood and Keep Pinellas Beautiful are hosting a cleanup Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. to remove dangerous trees and limbs from the cemetery.
Greenwood Cemetery is located at 875 11th Avenue S., St. Petersburg.

Hark-ALS fundraiser at the James Museum

Hark-ALS, whose mission is to share the story of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and provide a network of compassionate resources for families, is holding its second annual fundraiser, Blazing Trails of Support and Hope for ALS, at the James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art. It’s Sunday, Nov. 2 from 2 to 5 p.m.
The all-volunteer organization provides essential grants to help fund needs such as handicap-accessible vans, medical equipment, home modifications and household expenses. All donations go to those who need it most.
Tickets include heavy appetizers and drinks, live entertainment and free admission to the museum prior to the event. The fundraiser will also feature silent and live auction items from local businesses.
The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art is located at 150 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg.

Volunteer with Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas

The Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas is seeking volunteers to provide one-to-one or small group tutoring of adults who need help with reading and writing, or conversation for new speakers of English.
Tutors must attend an initial six-hour training workshop, followed by continued training once placed with a student or class. The next training session is Nov. 8.
Volunteers must be 18 or older, respectful of confidentiality and have a good command of the English language and grammar. A commitment of at least one year is preferred.
All programs take place at the Dunedin Public Library, 233 Douglas Avenue, Dunedin.

Hunger Free America seeks mobile food pantry specialist
Hunger Free America is a national nonprofit group that works to enact policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.

Volunteers are needed for the organization’s Clearwater mobile food pantry at 900 S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave. Duties include greeting guests, intake, distributing food through the drive-thru and helping to direct the flow of traffic.
Services are needed every second and fourth Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m.
