If you’re searching for ways to give back, the Catalyst’s Impact Connector is here to help. Each week, we feature five organizations in the Tampa Bay area that need your input, whether that’s time, talent, items, funding or simply awareness. We’re certain you’ll find something here that matches your interests and will positively impact the community.

Giving Machine Clearwater Pirate Day

Light the World Giving Machine at the Clearwater Mall is a unique, family-friendly giving experience that offers visitors a simple and meaningful way to help someone in need.

The Giving Machine opened Dec. 16 and is hosting Pirate Day, Saturday, Jan. 3 on its final day. Everyone is invited to dress up with pirate gear and Gasparilla beads and take advantage of one last chance to give this season.

Giving Machine kiosks are set up in front of the Crumbl storefront at the mall.  Instead of purchasing snacks, guests buy items that go directly to five local charities and two global charities, with options starting at five dollars. One-hundred percent of every donation goes directly to the charities. The event runs from noon until 8 p.m.

Volunteer for oyster reef ball construction

Tampa Bay Watch, Inc. is a nonprofit stewardship program dedicated exclusively to the protection and restoration of the marine and wetland environments of the Tampa Bay estuary through scientific and educational programs.

The organization is seeking volunteers Friday, Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. until noon to help take apart reef ball molds that were previously poured using hammers, reassembling the molds and pouring marine friendly concrete into a fiberglass mold to create new oyster reef balls.

Oyster reef balls, weighing about 200 pounds, are constructed with marine-friendly materials and strategically placed in areas with high wave energy to combat shoreline erosion. Designed with numerous nooks and crannies, they encourage oyster larvae to attach to both the external and internal surfaces.

Volunteers must be 16 or older and willing to get dirty.

Cleaning supplies will be provided and a water refill station will be on-site. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own bucket if they have one.

The meet-up location is the Clearwater Beach Pavillion, 10 Bay Esplanade. Free parking is available.

Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required.

Dali Museum seeks greeters

The Dali Museum is looking for volunteers to greet visitors and guide them to galleries, advise guests of the public docent-led and self-guided tours and answer other frequently asked questions.

When guests first arrive at the museum, they receive an abundance of information as they proceed through admissions. Greeters help fill in the gaps when guests arrive at the 3rd floor galleries.

The Dali Museum is located at One Dali Blvd., St. Petersburg.
