If you’re searching for a way to give back to your community, the Catalyst’s Impact Connector is here to help. Each week, we feature five organizations in the Tampa Bay area that need your input, whether that’s time, talent, items, funding or simply awareness. We’re certain you’ll find something here that matches your interests and will positively impact the community.

Support Local Animal Shelters

Local rescues and pet shelters are putting the call out to let residents know they are facing extreme overcrowding, particularly for dogs. This issue extends beyond Tampa Bay to shelters nationwide. To help:

  • Adopt a pet if you’re looking for a new family member
  • Share information about animals waiting for adoption
  • Consider fostering or volunteering at local shelters

Stuff the Truck with St. Petersburg Fire Rescue

Join St. Petersburg Fire Rescue and IAFF Local 747 for their second annual Stuff the Truck event:

  • Date: Today
  • Location: Walmart Supercenter, 3501 34th St. S.

Donate new, unwrapped toys to support children and families affected by fires and medical emergencies. Attendees will also get a chance to local firefighters and enjoy a festive, family-friendly atmosphere.

“World’s Largest Toy Drive” with College HUNKS

The holiday season is in full swing, and so are opportunities to give back by donating to local toy drives. College HUNKS Hauling Junk and Moving is asking for donations at its event, “The World’s Largest Toy Drive”:

  • Date: Today
  • Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Location: Sheltair Airplane Hangar, 4751 Jim Walter Blvd., Tampa

Donate new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages to brighten the holidays for local kids in need..

Volunteer at Local Food Banks

With the holiday season approaching, local food banks are in need of volunteers to help sort donations and prepare food packages for those in need. Check with organizations like Feeding Tampa Bay or St. Petersburg Free Clinic for volunteer opportunities. The Tampa Bay Network to End Hunger also operates a Meals on Wheels 4 Kids “Holidays On Wheels” program to deliver food for a full holiday meal and toys to families for the holidays. You can donate to help fund the program or volunteer to deliver meals at networktoendhunger.org.

Sponsor a child’s meals or family’s groceries

You can also sponsor meals through Positive Impact Ministries, a local nonprofit that feeds thousands in St. Petersburg each year. You can contribute to their efforts by becoming a monthly partner or making a one-time donation. For instance, a contribution of $50 per month can provide a daily meal for one child for an entire week, while $100 per month could cover a week’s worth of groceries for a small family.

Additionally, Positive Impact Ministries offers various annual sponsorship opportunities ranging from its “Impact Champion” for donations of $100,000 or more to the “Supporter” level with donations of $1,000 or more.

By supporting Positive Impact Ministries, you will be contributing to an organization that distributed enough food for nearly 2 million meals in 2023, significantly impacting those facing hunger in St. Petersburg. Tax-deductible online donations can be made at positiveimpact.org.

By engaging in these five impactful ways to give back, we can empower our communities and contribute to a more compassionate society. If your organization is seeking volunteers, donations or awareness, click here to submit your opportunity. We’ll get the word out to our readers.
