If you’re searching for a way to give back, the Catalyst’s Impact Connector is here to help. Each week, we feature five organizations in the Tampa Bay area that need your input, whether that’s time, talent, items, funding or simply awareness. We’re certain you’ll find something here that matches your interests and will positively impact the community.

Pinellas Bear Creek Watergoat Clean Up

Be a part of the solution and stop marine debris before it gets waterlogged and degrades into micro-plastics.

A Watergoat cleanup involves the removal of trash and debris collected by a Watergoat, which is a floating trash trap typically placed in bodies of water such as rivers, streams and drainage canals.

Join Water Warrior Alliance May 3 at 2 p.m. to help clean up the Bear Creek Watergoat

We will be in the sun, outside and close to nature. It is recommended that you bring water, a snack, bug spray and sunscreen. Volunteers will be provided clean gloves, trash pickers, buckets and GreenPoly trash bags for collecting trasha nd debris along Bartlett Park. It’s recommended to bring your own items as needed because you will be outside and close to nature.

Living Shoreline Install

Philippe Park shoreline. Photo by Pinellas County

Join Pinellas County on Saturday, April 19 to help out with installing the next phase of the living shoreline enhancement at Philippe Park.

We will be installing living shoreline elements along the northeastern seawall, and we’d love your help.

Please note, this activity can be labor intensive. We will be wading into the water to place castle blocks, oyster bags and oyster volcanoes. These weigh approximately 35 pounds each. Please wear appropriate clothing (and closed-toe shoes) that can get wet/dirty, and bring plenty of water.

Event details will be emailed to registered participants. The goals of this project are:

To improve water quality and provide additional aquatic habitat for wading birds, fish and other organisms.

To provide extra protection for the shoreline.

To educate park visitors about living shorelines.
