Five ways to make a difference in St. Pete
If you’re searching for a way to give back to your community, the Catalyst’s Impact Connector is here to help. Each week, we feature five organizations in the Tampa Bay area that need your input, whether that’s time, talent, items, funding or simply awareness. We’re certain you’ll find something here that matches your interests and will positively impact the community.
Towel donations needed
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is in urgent need of towel donations. Gently used or new towels can make a huge difference for animals in the humane society’s care. Every towel helps keep them warm, dry and comfortable and helps keep the shelter clean. Drop off your donations at the shelter, located at 3607 N. Armenia Ave. in Tampa.
Health Buddies
Are you a compassionate individual who cares about health? The Health Buddies program encourages better health through social connection.
Health Buddies engages compassionate, trained volunteers to provide encouragement, education and support to individuals living with chronic conditions. By joining, you can help empower people living with chronic conditions to enhance their quality of life, lower stress and anxiety, self-manage their health, live independently, reduce loneliness and connect to community resources.
To become a Health Buddy, contact Seniors in Service at (813) 492-8923 or email HealthBuddies@SeniorsinService.org.
Donate clothes to foster children in need
Suncoast Voices for Children provides for the unmet needs of abused, abandoned and neglected children in Pinellas and Pasco Counties. Many children enter foster care with nothing but the clothes on their backs. The nonprofit’s ‘Style Voiced’ clothing program consists of five locations within offices in Largo, New Port Richey, Trinity and Dade City to provide free, immediate access to four outfits, toiletries and other supplies to children entering into foster care or at risk of entering care. You can shop online to help stock the closets for the Style Voiced program here.
Become a dog foster
Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida has rescued thousands of golden retrievers. The nonprofit operates in Florida with over 200 volunteers helping staff the organization.
According to the Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida (GRRMF) website, one of their most precious resources is foster homes. Without an adequate number of foster homes, the organization is limited in how many goldens they can take in at one time.
The principle behind fostering is to provide a home environment for evaluating the dog’s habits and behavior and gathering any other information that will assist the new owner.
GRRMF needs caring, responsible golden lovers to join its foster home team by opening their hearts and homes to rescue goldens. Click here to view frequently asked questions about GRRMF’s foster program. If you have additional questions, email info@grrmf.org.
Get Bright Futures hours with Habitat for Humanity
If you have or know of a high school student seeking volunteer hours for the Bright Futures Scholarship program, refer them to Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties. No experience is necessary to volunteer with a Habitat home build project.
Individuals age 16 and older can volunteer. Volunteers must attend a brief volunteer orientation to be issued a required log to track volunteer hours.
Volunteer Orientation is held at Habitat’s Truist Homeowner Education Center, 13355 49th St. N. Suite B, Clearwater from 6 to 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. Learn more and sign up online here.
By engaging in these five impactful ways to give back, we can empower our communities and contribute to a more compassionate society. If your organization is seeking volunteers, donations or awareness, click here to submit your opportunity. We’ll get the word out to our readers.
