Florida Holocaust Museum welcomes new CEO
The Florida Holocaust Museum has announced that Carl Goodman, longtime director of New York’s Museum of the Moving Image, will be its new president and CEO, effective March 13.
Goodman, who was introduced to supporters of the St. Petersburg museum during the Feb. 4 gala, will replace interim director Erin Blankenship, who stepped in following the 2021 departure of CEO Elizabeth Gelman.
According to the New York Times, Goodman became the MoMI director in 2011, leading the museum’s growth in programming, education initiatives and attendance on the heels of a $67 million expansion and renovation. He began working at the facility in 1989, creating a program that taught visitors how computers were beginning to transform filmmaking.
“I’ve been walking up the same flight of stairs for about 34 years,” Goodman told the Times. “I’ve had a front seat at the digital revolution and have gone about as far as I could go at the museum with pride.”
Said Florida Holocaust Museum board chair Michael Igel: “We’re happy to welcome Carl to the Florida Holocaust Museum at a pivotal time. The museum and the lessons we teach have never been more relevant.
“As we continue to honor Holocaust victims and survivors and lead the battle against antisemitism in Florida and beyond, Carl has the perfect blend of experience and expertise to keep the museum at the forefront of our field. Our future remains bright.”
