Saturday’s Florida Orchestra concert featuring iconic violinist Itzhak Perlman, a celebration of the orchestra’s 55th anniversary, has been postponed because of Hurricane Ian’s imminent arrival.

The Florida Orchestra’s Oct. 2 Pops in the Park concert, in Tampa’s River Tower Park, was canceled Monday.

The Saturday concert, at St. Petersburg’s Mahaffey Theater, was to benefit for TFO’s artistic initiatives and education programs.

Featuring Perlman’s favorite film music under the baton of the orchestra’s Michael Francis, the performance will be rescheduled for later in the season; patrons are asked to hold on to their tickets. Details will be announced.

“Like everyone, we have been monitoring this storm closely, and we believe this is the best decision for the safety of everyone, now and after the storm,” said TFO President and CEO Mark Cantrell.
