"As an Acupuncture Physician," says Rebecca Gibbons, "I am able to integrate both my western medicine background with effective eastern medicine strategies, to be able to offer a different non-drug, non-surgical option to those who have chronic pain and complex chronic conditions." The core message is right there on her homepage: "At Achieve Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine, we are here to provide you with pain-relieving treatments so that you can get BACK to living life to its FULLEST."

Years in Tampa Bay

I have been in the Tampa Bay area for 15 years and have had my business for three years in St. Petersburg.

Hustle (job)

Acupuncture Physician, Founder and owner of Achieve Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine.

What do you do?

We treat people with chronic conditions such as chronic pain, neuropathy and infertility. We use acupuncture and integrative medicine to help people with chronic conditions.

Why do you do it?

During 15 years as an RN, I took care of numerous people suffering from chronic pain and other chronic conditions. Many of them felt hopeless and were on uncomfortable medications, or had surgeries that had complications. Their lives were filled with never-ending doctor’s appointments, prescription refills, rehab, ER visits and hospital stays. It was difficult to watch as an RN. The pain and suffering not only of my patients but the toll it took on their families. I decided to go back to school to become an Acupuncture Physician, half way through my nursing career, because I knew the struggle didn’t have to be real.

What was your Catalyst? (How did you get started?)

I have been an RN for 15 years and throughout this time I saw a lot of my patients unable to get relief from pain and chronic, difficult to treat conditions. I knew there were other options for people other than drugs, surgeries or no hope at all. I wanted to give these people hope and relief.

What’s a common misconception or unknown aspect of what you do?

Many people think that we are not medicine and that we are a last resort to “try” after they have tried everything else. We actually have great success in treating conditions that western medicine falls short with.

What’s the most challenging part of your Hustle?

Reaching more people.

What’s the most valuable piece of business advice/insight that’s helped you?

Be consistent with your message. Also keep speaking your message through different sources and outlets (print, social media, TV etc). Even when you think no one is watching or hearing what you are about, they actually are.
