Fairgrounds, the immersive, artist-crafted walk-through environment, will officially open to the public Sept. 2.

More than 60 artists created Fairgrounds’ initial installation, a blend of original art, technology and other design and storytelling elements. The 15,000-square-foot “experience” is located within The Factory St. Pete, in the Warehouse Arts District.

As part of a profit-sharing business model, artists will receive a portion of the ticket sales for as long as their work is on view at Fairgrounds.

In May 2000, the Catalyst reported, Factory construction had been boosted by $3.7 million from investors, the majority coming from philanthropists Jeff and Penny Vinik.

“Fairgrounds,” Jeff Vinik said at the time, “is gathering a diverse team of artists, technologists, entrepreneurs and community leaders to build something very unique in St. Pete.”

Tickets go on sale Friday on the Fairgrounds website.
