The professionals at Bayfront Hospital want you to know that they have your back – and elbows, knees, and hips, too.

Orlando Health, the central Florida not-for-profit hospital conglomerate that runs St. Petersburg’s Bayfront Hospital, confirmed the expansion of the Jewett Orthopedic Institute to Tampa Bay this week. In a first for the region, that relocation will include the introduction of an orthopedic walk-in clinic, which will function as an urgent care for orthopedic pain. The facility will also allow for patients to obtain a large number of orthopedic services related to diagnosis and treatment in one place.

The team of 20 physicians and 14 physician assistants, formerly of the Florida Medical Clinic, are set to rebrand in the coming months, with the St. Petersburg team relocating to offices in the Orlando Health Medical Pavilion – Institute Square in fall 2025. The orthopedic walk-in clinic will open in early 2026.

Dr. Chuck Nalley, an orthopedic surgeon at Jewett, highlighted that this will reduce the number of unnecessary emergency department visits for orthopedic pain. “The reality of muscle bone and joint pain, and in my case back pain, is the second greatest reason for seeing a provider.

“This facility and community has never had three orthopedic traumatology specialists dedicated to servicing the community 365 days a year.”

Dr. Dan Dziadosz, one of those orthopedic trauma surgeons, highlighted that the new facility will allow them to consolidate many orthopedic services in one place, reducing the wait time to diagnosis and patient care by housing physicians, MRI and CT imaging, lab work, and physical therapy together in one facility.

The expansion of services offered under the Orlando Health umbrella coincides with the construction of the new Institute Square facility, located on 5th Avenue S, adjacent to I-175. The facility will also house their Neuroscience Institute at Bayfront as part of the overall hospital complex and the City of St. Petersburg’s Innovation District.

Jewett’s expansion to Tampa Bay is the latest in a series of investments and upgrades made to the Bayfront Hospital network since Orlando Health’s acquisition in 2020. According to staff members and non-profits such as the Leapfrog Group, which rate hospitals based on patient care metrics, these changes have breathed new life into the facility. Prior to the acquisition Leapfrog rated Bayfront Hospital a D; in Spring 2025, the facility achieved an A for the first time.

As the new Jewett Orthopedic Institute facility nears its completion and opening this fall, the physicians and staff are already looking to future advancements. Top of the list will be increasing the number of orthopedic specialists available at the Jewett facility.

“Our long-term goal is to provide comprehensive musculo-skeletal health for every aspect of the body,” said Nalley. “We want to have every specialty and subspeciality.”
