League of Women Voters hosts Q&A on voting [Video]
The League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area held its penultimate Thursday Nights With The League virtual forum September 24.
The event was to feature a conversation between the two candidates for Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections. However, incumbent Julie Marcus (R) declined to participate. Her opponent, Dan Helm (D), was present and shared his platform for ensuring residents have fair, equitable and safe ways to vote.
Following Helm’s statement, moderator K.W. “Ken” Wrede moderated a live question-and-answer segment on voting featuring Linsey Grove, the League’s president and Amy Keith, the League’s second vice president. During the Q&A, the panelists answered questions about the duties of the Supervisor of Election, the voter registration process, mail-in ballots, the schedule for early voting, identification that can be used at the polls and what should be done if voters experience challenges casting their ballots. Several local residents also shared their stories of why voting is so important.
The final Thursdays With The League Event will be held Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. featuring the two candidates for Pinellas County Tax Collector, incumbent Charles Thomas (R) and Joe Saportas (D). The forum will be monitored by Catalyst publisher Joe Hamilton. To watch live, visit the League of Women Voters Facebook page or YouTube channel.
