Local manufacturer expands to 100,000-square-foot center

Medical equipment manufacturer MicroLumen Medical Tubing is taking over space in a local corporate center that formerly housed a health care giant’s operation. 

UnitedHealth Group, the parent organization of UnitedHealthcare and Optum and one of the world’s leading health care companies, was operating in a 100,500-plus-square-foot space at 601 Brooker Creek Blvd.

Tampa-based Harrod Properties, which is the developer of the master-planned office and industrial Brooker Creek Corporate Park, under the entity name H/A Partners II LTD, sold the building in the Brooker Creek Corporate Center to Microlumen Enterprises IV LLC for $16.25 million. 

“The lease term [for UnitedHealth Group] was up and MicoLumen wanted to expand,” Harrod Properties CEO Chad Harrod said. 

Harrod Properties’ portfolio also includes the Feld Entertainment headquarters in Palmetto, the Fairways Office Center in Largo, the Bayshore Executive Center in Tampa and multiple properties for Dex Imaging, among other sites. 

MicroLumen Medical Tubing has an existing 60,000-square-foot facility at in the same corporate center, at One Microlumen Way, where it manufactures tubing systems that are used in minimally invasive procedures, cardiovascular catheters, stent delivery systems and for urological retrieval devices and drug delivery.

The sale of the building to MicroLumen comes as UnitedHealth Group’s Optum business completed its $13 billion acquisition of the software and data analytics firm Change Healthcare in October. 

The Minnetonka, Minnesota-based provider also recently announced its plans to expands its individual and family plan footprint in 22 states next year.
