Looking forward: The month of August in the arts
Appearances by a pop icon, two of the country’s most iconic rock ‘n’ roll guitarists and a movie star-slash-musician make the hottest month of the year a particularly hot (and, well, iconic) one for concerts in the Tampa Bay area.
Hello, August. What took you so long?
Katy Perry’s 2025 globe trot touches down Aug. 22 at Amalie Arena. The pop music princess’ elaborate Lifetimes Tour has been packing arenas coast-to-coast since it began in May.

True to form, it’s a career retrospective show with plenty of Perry’s trademark stage sets, lighted and moving gizmos and costume changes.
The other big Perry in town is longtime Aerosmith guitarist Joe, who’s bringing his band, the Joe Perry Project, to the Seminole Hard Rock Event Center Aug. 13. This is the tour opener for the band, which also includes Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson, two more members of Aerosmith (Buck Johnson and Brad Whitford), plus Robert Deleo and Eric Kretz from Stone Temple Pilots.
Longtime Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers lead guitarist (and co-writer) Mike Campbell brings his hand the Dirty Knobs to Ruth Eckerd Hall Aug. 13 (the same day Joe Perry’s across the bay in Tampa).
Acclaimed actor Billy Bob Thornton has always been a musician, and a singer/songwriter, and since 2007 or so he and guitarist J.D. Andrew have had a band called the Boxmasters. The band plays rootsy, gritty country, rock, blues and pop.

Fresh off the news that Buckingham Nicks, the long-lost ‘70s album she made with fellow Fleetwood Mac’er-to-be Lindsey Buckingham, is finally getting a reissue, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Nicks will play Amalie Arena Aug. 30.
Those bad boys of 1990s pop punk, Blink-182, play the Mid Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre Aug. 29.
Kesha and Scissor Sisters share the bill Aug. 10 at the Mid Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre.
