Looking forward: The month of September in the arts
August hasn’t given us a lot of choices, big concert-wise, but things will start looking up once September arrives.
Pop singer Bruno Mars is Tampa Bay’s heavyweight performer for September. The Hawaiian native with deep Latin roots and a three-octave range has sold approximately 150 million records globally. He’s had 10 No. 1 songs, including 2024’s massive “Die With a Smile,” a duet with Lady Gaga.
Mars and his Hooligans band have been booked for two nights, Sept. 12 and 13, at Raymond James Stadium.

R&B/hip hop vocalist Kehlani will play the Mid-Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre Sept. 11. The “Folded” performer, a two-time Grammy winner, appeared on America’s Got Talent in 2011 as a member of the group Poplyfe. She has become somewhat controversial for anti-Israel statements.
Coming to the BayCare Sound Sept. 12 is the electronic dance music artist Mersiv. The concert, which begins at 3:15 p.m., is called MorFlow Fest; support acts are Caspa, Wreckno, Super Future, Seth David, Zen Selekta, FloZone and RJ WLKR.
Modest Mouse has a BayCare Sound date Sept. 16. The acclaimed indie rock band from Washington State is touring behind An Eraser and a Maze, its first album in five years. Guitarist Simon O’Connor was fired from Modest Mouse before the tour started, after he allegedly had improper contact with a 17-year-old fan.
Hip hop’s Wu Tang Clan brings the Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber tour to the Mid-Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre Sept. 24.
Classic rock fans have a lot to shout about in September. Rock and roll Hall of Famer Ann Wilson (of Heart) plays the Capitol Theatre Sept. 12; Blues Traveler, Gin Blossoms and Spin Doctors share the bill at the BayCare Sound Sept. 1; Robin Trower plays Jannus Live Sept. 17; Ferg’s Pavilion has Winger Sept. 25; Sept. 19 brings John Fogarty and Steve Winwood (Hall of Famers both) to the BayCare Sound.
Remember, all dates are subject to change. And you can bet other shows will be added as the new month progresses.
