Opportunity knocks: Give Day Tampa Bay runs from midnight to midnight, May 1

Opportunity knocks only so often for nonprofit leaders looking to expand their services and grow their audience. Most often it is through diligent planning and laying groundwork, but sometimes it’s catching lightning in a bottle (or an ice bucket). Once a year, opportunity comes knocking in the form of Give Day Tampa Bay. A 24-hour online day of giving, where the entire community lifts up the work being done by nonprofits, fires up their electronic device, heads to www.giveday.org and makes a donation.

Give Day Tampa Bay runs from midnight to midnight, May 1. The action is best experienced at www.GiveDay.org or on your favorite social platform, using the hashtag #GiveDayTB18. This year, the Community Foundation is highlighting leveraging opportunities of matching grants. Each of the 400+ participating nonprofits can engage board members, supporters, and friends who can build their own fundraising campaign to support the organization. Several of the prizes are based on acquiring and meeting a matching challenge. A complete listing and searchable database of participating nonprofits can be found at www.GiveDay.org.

While nothing can replace a robust donor development and engagement program, Give Day Tampa Bay is an opportunity worth time and effort. Give Day Tampa Bay should be part of an overall nonprofit fundraising strategy, of course, but can be catalytic for an organization with the right planning and effort. Taking the time to leverage public awareness and storytelling opportunities will only enhance a development strategy. If your favorite nonprofit hasn’t already hit you up for participation in Give Day Tampa Bay activities, they are missing the boat… and another crafty nonprofit will be there to fill the void.

The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay is proud to provide this opportunity for our nonprofit friends each year. We know that by building the capacity and effectiveness of our nonprofit community, we make Tampa Bay a better place. Thank you for helping us build a strong community through philanthropy!
