A weekly roundup of local real estate deals.

In the early 1920s, developer Thomas Rowe purchased 80 acres of land along the shoreline near St. Petersburg and hired famed architect Henry Dupont to design and build a luxurious hotel. In 1928, the Don CeSar opened its doors and instantly became a huge success. The same year, Rowe moved into 3401 Casablanca Ave., one of six villas he had built in the surrounding area.

The 2,700 square-foot, five-bedroom, three-bath home, which sits on an 11,000 square foot lot steps away from the historic “Pink Palace,” is now on the market with an asking price of $1.75 million.

After Rowe died in 1940, one of the most well-known occupants of “Casablanca De Olivas” was Captain Wilson Hubbard, who is famous for building Hubbard’s Marina, first on Pass-a-Grille, and later at John’s Pass. Hubbard’s children grew up in the Casablanca Avenue house where, from an early age, they were indoctrinated into the family business. Wilson’s son Mark and his grandson Dylan run Hubbard’s Marina to this day.

The exterior of the home has a Spanish flare with a white stucco walls and a terracotta barrel tile roof. The curved wooden front door leads into the grand living room with original hardwood floors and a wood-burning fireplace. Two of the bedrooms are on the first floor with the master suite and two additional bedrooms on the second, with views of the Don CeSar all around.

The listing is presented by Sarah Strobel of Charles Rutenberg Realty.
