Places This Week: Price drop on the Babe’s rented home

Following an initial asking price of $1.87 million in March, a 1924 residence once rented by baseball legend Babe Ruth, along with his wife Claire and stepdaughter Dorothy, has re-listed for $1.49 million.
Located at 346 16th Avenue NE in the Historic Old Northeast neighborhood of St. Petersburg, the two-story, 1,682 square-foot residence was purchased by local preservationist Maureen Stafford in 2021 for $539,000. She spent the last four years renovating and restoring the property. In May, the project won a 2025 Preservation Award from Preserve the ‘Burg for residential rehabilitation.
The home features three bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bath, a spacious modern kitchen, and a combination living/dining room with a fireplace and vaulted ceilings.
Outdoors is a newly restored pool surrounded by tropical gardens and a loggia with a brick fireplace. A parking pad with alley access provides space for five vehicles. A site plan is available to add a garage with an accessory dwelling unit above.
The 0.15-acre parcel is five blocks from the Tampa Bay waterfront and within walking or biking distance to downtown St. Petersburg.

Brand-new Coffee Pot Drive home sells
A newly-constructed waterfront estate at 337 Coffee Pot Drive NE, St. Petersburg sold Dec. 12 for $5.6 million. Owned and built by Donald C. Hughes General Contractor, Inc., the home was completed in late 2024 and first listed for sale in January with an asking price of $7.8 million.
Situated on a 0.26- acre plot, the two-story residence provides 6,290 heated square feet and features four bedrooms, five full bathrooms and one half-bath. The chef’s kitchen is equipped with Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances and a large walk-in pantry.
The owner’s suite on the second floor provides water and downtown St. Petersburg skyline views, a closet with custom organization systems, a wet bar and a private deck. Additional spaces include an office, bonus room, loft area and an elevator that connects the two levels.

Central Avenue office building for sale
A 5,050 square-foot office building located at 1980 Central Ave., St. Petersburg has listed for sale with an asking price of $3.25 million.

Madeira Beach multifamily lists
A fully renovated and turnkey multifamily property at 160 145th Avenue E., Madeira Beach has entered the market for $3.75 million.

Clearwater strip center for sale
Coachman Plaza, a two-building strip center located at 2198 Coachman Road, NE, Clearwater has listed for $3.39 million.
The two buildings, together comprising 24,632 gross square feet, were completed in 1979 and 1983.
The retail center is fully leased with an average term of 1.86 years, offering the potential to convert to a triple-net lease structure within two years.
The 1.70-acre plot of land accommodates 98 vehicles and is located near major retailers including Walmart, Bob Evans, Starbucks and Publix. Amenities include a signalized intersection and pylon signage.
The seller, BITVA Properties, LLC, purchased the strip center in 2006 for $1.35 million. Andrew Doerr and Jake Lurie with Matthews Real Estate Investment Services are the listing agents.

Pinellas Park apartment complex sells
Aspire at Gateway, a 329-unit apartment complex at 5501 110th Avenue N., Pinellas Park, was sold Dec. 15 for $61 million. The seller, Los Angeles based TruAmerica Multifamily, which also owns and operates seven other apartment communities in Pinellas County, purchased the complex in 2021 for the same price.
The two-building property (each completed in 2001) features 322,686 square feet of living space across three floors, and a one-story, 4,464 square-foot leasing office/clubhouse.
The complex, which is 94% leased, provides 100 one-bedroom/one-bath units ranging in size from 732 to 821 square feet, 197 two-bedroom/two-bath units ranging in size from 1,089 to 1,182 square feet, and 32 three-bedroom/two-bath units, each with 1,238 square feet.
The 18.39-acre parcel provides over 60,000 square feet of parking options, including detached garages and carports.
Apartment amenities include private patios and balconies, full-size washers and dryers, fully-equipped kitchens with self-cleaning ovens, exterior storage and lake and conservation views.
Community amenities include a pool with a sundeck, tennis court, bark park, picnic area, fitness center, playground and a sand volleyball court.
The buyer is WRH Properties, Inc., a St. Petersburg corporation which also manages three Clearwater multi-unit properties.
