The St. Petersburg renaissance has been in full swing for more than a decade. We’ve excelled in many areas and struggled in others. In our series St. Pete 2.0, we’re partnering with the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership to explore what lies on the other side of our potential – what will it take to move to the “next level” as a city? Through this series, we’ll dig into specific topics with the hope that you, our thoughtful citizens, will share your insight, experience and wisdom.

The Urban Land Institute has identified our community as one of the top markets nationwide for continued development. Smaller cities like St. Pete continue to see increased demand from companies looking to relocate from larger metropolitan areas. The trend to move to smaller sunbelt cities started a few years ago, but the movement has been accelerated by Covid concerns and social unrest. Economic development professionals and commercial real estate experts recently encouraged city council members to continue to look for ways to support office development, and the Downtown Partnership has identified the development of high-impact workplaces as one of its top priorities for 2021.

In this edition of St. Pete 2.0, we are asking you, our readers and the members of the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership to help us identify our future needs and gain a better understanding of how Covid has impacted the way we live and work.
