Telepathy Labs Inc., a Tampa technology company with an artificial intelligence platform, has raised $6.6 million in an early-stage funding round.

Nearly 90 investors, primarily friends and family, invested in the debt and option offering, according to a June 30 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Telepathy Labs does not have any institutional investors, said Josselyn Boudett, Telepathy Labs CEO and founder.

The company, founded in 2016, is still in stealth mode, but is already in the market with a customer base, Boudett said.

“Our research and development is in the area of advancing the future of data consumption and helping people interact with computers, so computers have all the intelligence and people can access it efficiently,” Boudett said.

Boudett is a technology industry veteran who previously was chief marketing officer at BountyQuest, a now-defunct patent search firm that was backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. She’s also the founder of Bija Capital Advisors, a patent advisory firm.

Telepathy Labs, headquartered in Tampa’s Rocky Point area, has a portfolio of 37 patents, nine of which have been granted. The company has offices in other parts of North America, Singapore and Zurich. Boudett declined to say how large her staff is, but the company is always looking for top talent and is hiring, she said.

Telepathy Labs’ customers are large enterprises and mature companies that have large investments in technology. Adding artificial intelligence to existing technologies allows those companies to have a digital platform.

“It makes an intelligent ecosystem where people are empowered with data and information that’s real time. It includes insights and recommendations,” Boudett said.

COVID has catalyzed the digital era, she said.

“I think our platform will help accelerate that for companies that haven’t accomplished the transformation yet as well as for companies that have,” she said. “Our R&D is in the perfect place to help companies leverage intelligence and build intelligence insights and leverage them so that, independent of their vendors or their cloud platform or their legacy systems, they can accomplish adaptive insightful AI.”
