The Morean Arts Center is excited to announce our nomination for Regions Bank 2019 “What a Difference a Day Makes” campaign.

In honor of our nation’s veterans, throughout November, Regions Bank is highlighting nonprofit organizations that provide meaningful services to veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families.

With a mission of connecting the community to arts, the Morean Arts Center is committed to fully embracing accessibility. After partnering with James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital, we began to offer glassblowing to military patients and veterans as part of a community-based art program. Thus, the inception of Operation: Art of Valor at the Morean Glass Studio & Hot Shop on March 18th, 2018 was created. We proudly serve the military and veteran population through structured, hands-on learning that focuses on improving cognition, social interaction, physical dexterity, teamwork, and confidence.

“This program has helped save my life. It has also shown me that I am more than a veteran. I am an artist.” – Participating Veteran

“Sometimes glassblowing reflects life. I’ve learned to realize that somedays all of my projects don’t turn out as I would have hoped. It was difficult to let some go of some of the failed pieces when I first started …. Now, I can realize when it’s best to just scrap it, take a break, and start over.”

Having a place where veterans can connect through experience and collaborate artistically has proven to be beneficial to program participants. While the Morean Arts Center is proud to be part of an initiative that serves military patients, veterans, and the community, the glassblowing program is just the beginning.

You can now vote for the Morean Arts Center at https://doingmoretoday.com/what-a-difference/ through November 30th, 2019 for our help in providing meaningful programs to local veterans and service members.
