Here’s a surprise – the photo at the top of this story has nothing whatsoever to do with St. Petersburg’s vaunted Salvador Dali Museum. The work depicted is called Artist with Distracting Mustache, and it’s a is a 32×26 felted wool portrait created by Gulfport artist Dawn Waters.

Waters is one of 46 creators showcased in Florida CraftArt’s “Members’ Show: Contemporary Craft at its Finest,” a juried exhibition launching with a virtual reception today at 6 p.m.

Florida CraftArt, at 501 Central Ave. in St. Pete, will exhibit the 79 pieces though March 20 (check the group’s website for hours of operation during these crazy days of Covid).

The exhibition will be judged by Susana Weymouth, Chief Development Officer for The Florida Orchestra.

# At the Creative Pinellas gallery on Walsingham Road in Largo, the 2020 Arts Annual exhibition – featuring works by more than 30 artists – closes this weekend. Viewing hours are 12-5 today through Sunday. Here’s the video of the fascinating virtual festival that went along with it in November:

And more

# Coming in less than a week (Feb. 4-6): The Imagine Museum’s 2021 Glass Coast Weekend event, featuring a glass art auction, guest speakers, home tours and a finale called the “International Carnivale of Glass.” It’s all virtual, and more information (and tickets) can be found here. More on this event soon in the Catalyst.

# The auction won’t happen until March 14, but you can go online right now and view some of the amazing art that’s been donated to the Woodson Warriors Project for 2021. This is a top-of-the line list of local artists: Steven Kenny, Duncan McClellan, Mark Aeling, Brenda McMahon and Woodson Warriors founder Jane Bunker. Proceeds fund scholarships, through the Carter G. Woodson African American Museum, for promising high school students. Check it out here.
