TAMPA, FL – The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay announced that through the generous support of its donors and partners, it has granted $3 million directly to local nonprofits to fund or partially fund more than 160 requests through the Nonprofit Needs List. Since inception, the Nonprofit Needs List has had 641 COVID-related requests totaling almost $30 million. The local needs remain great for food and shelter, health and wellness, education, arts and culture, animal welfare and more.

To assure that the requests remain relevant, the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay recently refreshed the Nonprofit Needs List process. These improvements include more defined search functionality and the ability to download search results. Requests more than 60 days old were removed, and nonprofits were encouraged to resubmit new or remaining needs. The current refreshed list contains 238 requests totaling $12.3 million.

The Foundation is still accepting requests from local nonprofits for needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic and a one-to-three match program is available to Community Foundation of Tampa Bay Fundholders providing grants to requests on the needs list through the end of August. The Community Foundation continues to make connections and to generate resources to meet critical demands in our community.

“We wanted to respond quickly to the COVID-19 crisis in our community and we did so by providing an innovative, transparent solution that allows the immediate COVID-19 related needs in our local community to be shared in a very public way. It is not the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay’s needs list, but rather the Community’s needs list and we ask our community partners to help us address these immediate community needs,” said Jesse Coraggio, Vice President of Community Impact.

About the Nonprofits Needs List
The nonprofit needs list was developed by the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay so that when a crisis, natural disaster or emergency impacts the Tampa Bay area, our donors, partners, corporations, and residents have a mechanism to help their neighbors in need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our efforts to connect needs to resources included:

  • Mobilizing funds to support the most immediate needs of the nonprofits that serve our community and its people.
  • Gathering information on what our nonprofits need in a systematic way
  • Analyzing and sharing that information with those in a position to help
  • Informing our donors, partners, other philanthropists, and friends about available resources
