Water service to be restricted on barrier islands
Starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, potable water service on the barrier islands will be restricted by Pinellas County Utilities. Customers will experience very low pressure after this time.
This, according to a county notice, will pose a safety risk to all residents in Belleair Beach, Belleair Shore, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Redington Shores, Redington Beach, Madeira Beach, John’s Pass, Treasure Island, Pass-a-Grille, St. Pete Beach, South Pasadena, Tierra Verde and Fort De Soto
Potable water – that is, water that’s safe to drink – is being limited on the islands “to protect critical infrastructure and alleviate strain on our water and wastewater systems.” Substations are still undergoing repairs caused by damages from Hurricane Helene.
This restriction will also affect water service to fire lines, which means fire rescue crews will not have quick access to water from fire hydrants in the event of an emergency.
If you have not evacuated, please do so immediately.
The County will continue to provide potable water service and sewer service updates before, during and after the storm via email and text alerts. Call the Customer Service line at (727) 464-4000 with questions.
