SPCA offers half-price adoptions

SPCA Tampa Bay is hosting a "Summer Adopt-A-Thon" with half-price adoption fees for dogs, cats and small animals. The organization is also offering the adoption of two small animals or livestock for the price of one. According to SPCA Tampa Bay, the shelter currently has over 45 dogs and puppies, 80 cats and kittens and 80 pocket pets and livestock awaiting a home. Adoptable animals can be viewed at www.spcatampabay.org.

Local startup receives strategic investment

Colorado-based Innosphere Venture Fund announced Tuesday it recently invested in and partnered with Tampa startup Nickelytics. While the firm did not disclose investment terms, a spokesperson said it is co-leading a $3 million seed round. Nickelytics bridges the gap between physical and digital marketing by offering a suite of integrated out-of-home advertising solutions.

St. Pete rec center accepts school supplies for children

The City of St. Petersburg’s Bay Vista Recreation Center is hosting a school supply drive to help elementary and middle school students prepare for the upcoming school year. The facility, at 7000 4th St. S., accepts donations of new items Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., until July 31. For more information, contact the center at 727-893-7124.

Rays’ City Connect jerseys rank first in MLB

Sports Illustrated recently ranked Major League Baseball’s 28 City Connect jerseys, and the Tampa Bay Rays’Grit X Glowmotif placed first. The publication wrote, “There’s the Mona Lisa, the Sistine Chapel and the Tampa Bay Rays’ City Connect uniforms. If these beauties haven’t won you over yet, just wait until you find out about the alternate logo featuring a stingray on a skateboard.”

Red Bull Flugtag returns to Tampa Bay

For the first time in 13 years, Tampa Bay residents will have an opportunity to launch a homemade flying machine off the end of a 27-foot-tall deck this fall. Red Bull’s Flugtag, which translates to “flying day” in German, returns Nov. 9 to the Tampa Convention Center. Floral and wine bar opens in St. Pete

Pistil House, a combined flower shop and wine bar, is now open at 2533 1st Ave. S. A Pinellas County couple transformed the historic 1920s bungalow into a floral shop that also serves wine, coffee and small bites.

Tampa Bay apartments are unaffordable for 60% of residents

A recent Redfin report found that Tampa Bay households must annually earn $70,280 to afford a median-priced apartment. However, the estimated median renter income is $56,830, a 19.1% deficit. That leaves approximately 59.6% of residents unable to afford a moderately priced apartment.

Largo healthcare group files for second bankruptcy

Choice Health Care is undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy for a second time due to an ongoing dispute between two owners. The Largo-based vein and vascular clinic has roughly $5.8 million in debt, including $3.8 million for defaulting on a lease at 515 Missouri Ave. N. Co-owner Dr. Nwobi Obinna claimed in the June 20 filing that his partner, Dr. Stephen Steller, also owes him $1 million for breaching his fiduciary duty.

Riverwalk expansion budget nearly doubles

Before the pandemic, Tampa city officials expected a long-proposed Riverwalk expansion to cost $30 million. The city council voted 5-2 to increase the proposed construction budget to $56.8 million. A final vote for the six-mile multimodal path dubbed West Riverwalk is set for July 18.

Each LSP class gives back to the community by annually fundraising and working hands-on to improve a nonprofit’s site or facility. Tampa Bay ranks among nation’s best areas for ‘staycations’

WalletHub recently ranked Tamp 5th and St. Petersburg 33rd among “2024’s Best Cities for Staycations.” The personal finance platform compared 180 cities across 42 indicators of an “exciting yet wallet-friendly staycation,” including parks and museums per capita and meal costs to compile its list. Orlando paced the nation.
