Clearwater’s popular Beach Walk promenade, connecting businesses along the waterfront, will be getting a facelift.

The nearly $30 million project runs from South Gulfview Boulevard to Mandalay Avenue. This will be the first major renovation project for Beach Walk since its opening in 2008.

The project will entail the city replacing several amenities, such as light bollards, benches, showers and landscaping throughout the year along the winding half-mile walkway.

“To minimize the amount of manual maintenance, the City of Clearwater is adding an innovative cleaning layer that will require less manual staff maintenance and power washing,” the city’s news release read.

Additional improvements include new signage and shade structures, the renovation of the beach showers and refurbishment of the water fountains.

The entire project is estimated to cost over $1.3 million.

The renovations will start Dec. 5 with an estimated completion date of August 2023.

Tampa-based Certus Builders is spearheading the project.

Beach Walk will be open to beachgoers; however, certain sections will close, beginning on the south end of Clearwater Beach and working towards Pier 60.

The city said businesses near the construction area will be notified before the fencing goes in place for each section.

“The goal for this project will be to keep access to the beach and businesses as open as possible, temporarily halt construction during popular times such as spring break and complete the project in an efficient and safe manner,” according to the city.
