The Covid-19 pandemic was barely a speedbump for CaseGlide, a St. Petersburg-based tech company that specializes in software designed to help insurers better manage — and, in the process, save money on — claims litigation work.

Co-founder and CEO Wesley Todd, speaking to the Catalyst, said the company doubled its revenue in 2020 and has grown to 30 employees at its new downtown St. Pete headquarters at 333 3rd Ave. N. Just a couple of years ago, it had a staff of 15 but, in October 2019, the company received a major investment from Acadian Software, a tech-focused venture capital firm.

“We’re very fortunate to have thrived during the pandemic and added a great deal of teammates from St. Pete and nearby areas,” Todd said. “We’re really excited about the foundation that we’re laying for tackling this challenge of claims litigation — anybody local to St. Pete or Florida is all too familiar with rising insurance rates and all the other difficulties of getting insured. Everybody’s feeling that firsthand, and it’s exciting to be able to put a team together to help tackle some of the biggest challenges in litigation and in insurance.”

CaseGlide’s software-as-a-service platform brings greater transparency to the process by which attorneys communicate with and bill insurance industry clients. But Todd said the company wants to be a thought leader and “own the conversation around claims litigation management,” and so it’s launched a monthly podcast, hosted by Todd, titled The Litigation Management Podcast.

The first episode dropped earlier this month and featured a conversation with Nick Lamperelli, a Naples insurance executive and fellow podcaster. Todd and Lamperelli, according to a news release about the podcast, discussed the new wave of insurance innovation, including how insurers and litigation leaders can best use the immense amount of data available to them, and how technology and cutting-edge marketing techniques are changing the face of the insurance and claims litigation marketplace.

“We’re basically doing it via Zoom right now,” Todd said, “but with a lot of bells and whistles added after the recording to make it very professional.”

Todd said he hopes to soon transition to recording the podcast with guests live in the studio. Right now, his focus is on booking guests that will deliver the most value to listeners. Most guests that have been lined up so far are people with whom the company already has a good working relationship, but he’s also bringing in other industry thought leaders he’s followed over the years.

“We are compelled to hear their message ourselves and then bring it to our audience,” Todd said. “But we don’t really structure the conversation too much. The topic is basically the guest’s perspective — we want to make the dialogue as open as possible, so that person feels free to share their theory on where we’re headed in claims litigation.”

Other guests slated to appear on the podcast include Matt Queen, a U.S. claims vendor manager at one of the country’s largest leading specialist insurers; Rick Merrill, the CEO and founder of Gavelytics; and Alex Meisner, director of innovation at Snapsheet.

Podcasts, Todd said, represent “the best medium” for reaching busy attorneys, insurance adjustors and other professionals dealing with claim litigation.

“You don’t have to watch and listen — you can just listen and do something else at the same time,” he said. “That’s important, because everybody in claims and law is busy doing something else, I can promise you. And the other piece is that nobody can read 45 minutes’ worth of conversation. It’s virtually impossible — it’s way too much content. So this is the perfect medium, but it’s also a casual thing. We’re not necessarily trying to accomplish a whole lot specifically for CaseGlide.”

He added, “We’re still in the early stages of advancement [in claims litigation management]. But maybe two, three, four, five years from now, a handful of listeners have left their jobs and gone on to start other companies, and all of a sudden we’re starting to make a lot more progress than we used to.”

The Litigation Management Podcast is available now via the CaseGlide website and on Spotify, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible and Google Podcasts.
