The City of St. Petersburg is hosting a job fair Saturday, Feb. 25, for available positions at its golf courses, library system, childcare, and parks and recreation departments. The starting wage for city employees is $15 an hour. The job fair will be hosted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lake Vista Recreation Center.
The Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce named its annual award winners earlier this month, with Sunshine Scenic tours receiving Business of the Year recognition. Its owners, Dustin and Renee O’Neal, also operate Royal Conquest Pirate Ship, the Dolphin Quest and the Shark Boat on the John’s Pass Boardwalk. Sarah Laracuente, owner of Sail Market Boutique & Gallery, was named Community Hero for donating 10% of sales to St. Vincent de Paul Cares.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri recently launched a program to help first responders identify someone with special needs. His office is now providing stickers for those people and their families to display in their homes or vehicles. The owners of King State, a popular coffee shop and brewer in Tampa Heights, recently announced plans for a St. Petersburg location. A social media post states that the new King State will open alongside the CoHatch co-working space at 15 8th St. N. and feature a full kitchen and bar. The owners did not provide an opening date.
Over 3,300 pelicans became tangled in fishing gear at the Skyway Fishing Pier between 2021 and 2022, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is proposing new rules to reduce that number. Those include a ban on lines with multiple hooks, a two-rod limit and an annual education requirement. FWC officials will discuss the proposals at a meeting Tuesday.

City officials seek residents to fill open seats on five boards and committees that impact daily life in St. Petersburg. Those include the Arts Advisory Committee, with three vacancies; the City Beautiful Commission, with five vacancies; the Civilian Police Review Committee, with two vacancies; the Committee to Advocate for Persons with Impairments, with four vacancies; and the Public Arts Commission, with one vacancy. Construction is progressing for The Nolen, a 23-story boutique residential tower at 146 4th Ave. Northeast, which will include 31 units, a three-story parking structure and 1,260 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The deep foundation work is complete, and the concrete foundation work, including concrete walls and columns, is now underway. A tower crane is expected to arrive at the site by mid-March, according to the latest update from Smith and Associates Real Estate.
Edelweiss Air is resuming its connection from Tampa International Airport to Zurich, Switzerland. The first flights will launch on March 2. The announcement comes nearly two years after Edelweiss Air paused servicing this route, according to a release from TPA.
Leader J.P. DuBuque who heads the St. Petersburg Economic Development Corporation, tasked with bolstering the region's workforce and recruiting companies, is exiting his post effective April 28. The St. Pete EDC announced Friday that DuBuque will be leaving the organization he helped build from its founding in 2016 as he has accepted the role as the chief operating officer at the Tampa-based accounting firm Rivero, Gordimer and Company. “In my new role I look forward to using the experience I’ve had working with companies at different stages in their life cycles in various industries and focusing it on one company to help it excel over the long term," DuBuque said in the news release.
Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) passengers can now tap their smartphones, credit or debit cards to pay bus fares. The program also launched in Hillsborough and Hernando Counties Wednesday, marking the state’s first contactless payment system. Riders can still pay with cash if they choose.
