Largo cleanup at Bayhead Action Park

The City of Largo, in partnership with Keep Pinellas Beautiful, is holding a cleanup at Bayhead Action Park, Saturday, Aug. 22 from 8 until 11 a.m. Volunteers will help pick up litter and debris in the park and surrounding areas. All ages are welcome.

Closed toe shoes, weather appropriate clothing and sun protection are strongly recommended.

Volunteers under the age of 18 must be signed in by a parent or guardian, and anyone under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Cleanup supplies will be provided and a water refill station will be available. Onsite parking is free.

Bayhead Action Park is located at 375 Seminole Blvd., Largo. Volunteers are asked to arrive a few minutes early to sign in.

“Rays on the Runway” benefitting Children’s Dream Fund

The Children's Dream Fund is a St. Petersburg-based 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1981, that has granted more than 4,000 dreams to children with life-threatening illnesses throughout West Central Florida. Children can choose their own dream, whether it's meeting a hero, taking a special trip, receiving something they've always wanted or being someone they've always wanted to be.

On Thursday, Aug. 27 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at The Floridian Social in St. Petersburg, Children's Dream Fund is hosting "Rays on the Runway," a fundraiser to benefit the organization's ability to create lasting memories and make children’s dreams come true.

The evening will include a social hour with light bites and cocktails, followed by a fashion show where Tampa Bay Rays players, their significant others and 15 dream children will walk the runway in outfits curated by Tampa Bay area retailers.

Redington Shores sunset cleanup and sound bath

Keep Pinellas Beautiful and Beach Yoga Pinellas are joining together for a sunset cleanup and sound bath Sunday, Aug. 16 at Redington Shores Beach.

The cleanup will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a sound bath session – an immersive sound healing experience that uses therapeutic frequencies and vibration to regulate the nervous system and reduce stress – beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes, weather appropriate clothing and sun protection. All supplies will be provided and restrooms are available onsite.

The cleanup will begin at Redington Shores Beach Access, 18200 Gulf Boulevard. Parking passes will be provided to volunteers.

The Blue Urban Project underwater cleanup

The Blue Urban Project advances blue urbanism by connecting people, cities and marine ecosystems to build communities that are healthier, safer and more sustainable.

In partnership with The Florida Aquarium and Letts Dive, the organization is hosting an underwater cleanup, Saturday, Aug. 22 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Bay Fishing Pier at Fort De Soto Park.

Diver and topside volunteers are needed to help remove debris from the water and protect the local marine environment.

Fort De Soto Park is located at 3500 Pinellas Bayway S., Tierra Verde.

Event volunteers needed

Harbor Dish, Inc. is a mobile community café created in 2013 that transforms donated food into refined cuisine. It works with local farmers, businesses and volunteers to enrich lives and reduce food waste.

Harbor Dish serves over 20 nonprofits in the Tampa Bay area that provide food to the homeless, home bound seniors, veterans and other underserved communities.

Volunteers are needed to help out at events, including set-up, hospitality and tear-down. Some lifting may be required.

Volunteers must be 14 year or older, attend an orientation and commit to two or more hours per event.

Volunteer with Citizen’s Climate Lobby

Citizen’s Climate Lobby is a nonprofit, nonpartisan grassroots organization that is focused on national policies to address climate change. It has more than 500 chapters across the United States.

The organization’s St. Petersburg chapter is seeking volunteers to educate the community about global warming and legislative solutions, write letters to the editors, host film screenings and panel conversations and meet with local media.

Training is provided through weekly livestream informational sessions. Work can be done onsite or virtually.

Safety Harbor Library After Dark fundraiser

The Safety Harbor Public Library Foundation is hosting a Library After Dark fundraiser, Friday, Aug. 7 from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m.

Tickets are $40 and include food provided by Daydreamers Café and Grill, and music by Greg West and others performing throughout the building. Beer, wine and other beverages will be available for purchase.

Proceeds will help fund the library and the various programs it provides to the community.

The library is located at 101 2nd Street N., Safety Harbor.

Do Good Sprouts Crescent Lake cleanup

The Do Good & Shine Brightly Foundation, Inc. is a St. Petersburg 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed last year that coordinates initiatives to help sustain growth, collaboration and impact among local nonprofit organizations.

Do Good Sprouts is a series of events that connect children with local nonprofits and hands-on community experiences. On Saturday, Aug. 29, in partnership with Stewards of Our Urban Lakes, Connect Pinellas and other nonprofit organizations, the Foundation is hosting a community cleanup at Crescent Lake Park in St. Petersburg from 8:30 until 11 a.m.

The event is free for children of all ages, along with their families, and includes a lake cleanup as well as interactive activities to help children learn more about the environment and giving back to their community.

Indian Rocks Beach Community Food Pantry needs help

The Beach Community Food Pantry in Indian Rocks Beach serves neighbors in need with dignity, compassion and consistency.

Volunteers are needed to assist with various roles, including driving the pantry van to and from Feeding Tampa Bay and loading and unloading pantry items, marking inventory and sorting donations, grocery shopping and pet food sorting.

Some roles have designated time slots while others are more flexible.

The Beach Community Food Pantry is located at 1615 1st Street, Indian Rocks Beach.

Back 2 School Bash – Daystar Life Packs & Snacks for Kids campaign

The St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA) and Daystar Life are holding a Back 2 School Bash, Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the Thomas “Jet” Jackson Recreation Center, 1000 28th Street S., St. Petersburg.

The event is designed to help SPHA families prepare for the upcoming school year. It will feature backpack giveaways, pizza, ice treats, face painting, music by DJ Dondy and family-friendly activities.

As part of its Packs & Snacks for Kids campaign, Daystar Life is collecting backpacks and snacks (including granola bars, fruit snacks, crackers, juice boxes and more) through the end of July to be distributed at the Aug. 4 event. All items must be unopened and individually packaged.

Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Daystar Life, 1055 28th Street S., St. Petersburg.
